Twin Elephant Brewing Company is a 'grassroots' brewery in Chatham, NJ. that started as a dream for 2 talented home-brewers. A 3500 sq ft warehouse space interior was converted to house a brewing, packaging and storage facility, office, grain room, lab, ADA bathrooms and taproom. Most of the wooden finish materials used were either reclaimed from a friends Century-old collapsed barn or milled pallet-wood from surrounding industrial businesses. The stories of these materials are intended to invoke a sense of rustic nostalgia from the areas history on a modern backdrop. A stockpile of wooden extension ladders from Bethlehem PA. found within the barn serves as a re-purposed decorative element throughout the space including the bars millwork cases, while a displayed homage to the company's home-brewing days greets visitors upon entry. The taprooms custom tap handles are illuminated from above by a case containing a back-lit sample of each beers color and opacity that rotates each week, offering a different visual experience with every visit. A 16 foot barn beam 'viking table' by Steve Kalavitch serves as a division of the taproom seating areas as a Shou Shugi Ban finished church pew underscores the company's logo. A.I.M. Design collaborated with the folks at Twin Elephant from Schematic Design through build-out, including lighting design and FF&E. Best of luck to these guys...they are extremely passionate about what they do!
